about

English/
Encouraged by the positive reviews - coming from specialized media from different parts of the world - received by his first album “Sonoritat de mil miralls”, Jaume de Viala now presents his second album, “Calidoscopi embruixat”. The entire repertoire, except three new songs, dates back to the distant years 1978-79, allowing the artist the license to return once again to the past to update / reinvent his old compositions without losing the essence.
In this work a more Prog-Rock and Fusion style predominates, without losing sight of the Mediterranean inspiration (preferably from the eastern side) and resorting to more accelerated rhythmic patterns.
Once again, led by the Serbian guitarist and co-producer Dusan Jevtovic, Jaume de Viala has been able to enjoy contributions from top-class musicians. One of them is the Israeli drummer Asaf Sirkis (praised by Bill Bruford himself in his book “Uncharted”), who has a brilliant track record: Larry Coryell, Soft machine Legacy, Carles Benavent, Jorge Pardo, Gary Husband, David Cross, Markus Reuter… Remarkable novelties have also been the imaginative Macedonian percussionist Aleksandar Petrov and the participation in the entire album (on the first they had been occasional collaborations) of the excellent Serbian keyboardist Vasil Hadzimanov, without forgetting the bassist Bernat Hernández.
Although this work is more instrumental than the previous one, the singer with suggestive vocal textures Judit Cucala returns performing three pieces. The 43 minutes that the album lasts constitute an exciting journey that travels through progressive landscapes (“Llangardaixos a les portes de l'alba”, “Mel i fel”, “Les Jordies”…), of Jazz-Fusion of the 70's (“ Cavalcada per la nocturnitat aràbiga”…) or the more Mediterranean Barcelona Ona Laietana (“La dansa de l'aigua”).
